ARE YOU AWARE that abortion up to 9 months is almost a legal reality for Victoria? The 'Abortion Law Reform Bill 2008' was tabled on 19th August. If passed, it would make abortion legal for any reason and at any time up to 24 weeks. It also makes abortion legal up to birth, provided 2 doctors agree it is appropriate on medical grounds and with regard to "the woman's current and future physical, psychological and social circumstances." He wrote to the priests of Melbourne asking them to encourage Catholics to contact their member of State Parliament. Premier John Brumby's stance is in line with ALP party policy. See http://www.vic.alp.org.au/alp/pdf/policies/2006_vic_platform.pdf (section 3.38 on page 49 (page 50 of PDF)). It says:   "Labor will amend section 65 of the Crimes Act to provide that no abortion be criminal when performed by a legally qualified medical practitioner at the request of the woman concerned". CADOA opposes the decriminalisation of abortion. We want to protect our next generation.
