The new law makes abortion legal for any reason and at any time up to 24 weeks. It also makes abortion legal up to birth, provided 2 doctors agree it is appropriate on medical grounds and with regard to "the woman's current and future physical, psychological and social circumstances." In effect, this means abortion on demand.
This is a very sad moment in Victoria's history. Our most vulnerable, the unborn, have been devalued and ignored by those who are meant to provide protection.
Like many of you we publicly fought against this happening, and now grieve that this battle has been lost. We are aware that a new fight must now emerge, to change the hearts and minds of Australians, so that abortion is no longer recognised as an appropriate solution to unwanted pregnancy.
As the Coalition Against Decriminalisation of Abortion (CADOA), however, we acknowledge that our title and mandate is no longer relevant, and so we have decided to formally finish as an organisation. We have experienced great value in working together as a Coalition, but agree that this season is now unfortunately finished and it is time to wind things up. As individuals though, we are completely committed to the cause, and we will all continue to stand against abortion in our respective organisations. And in the future, there will be plenty of opportunity to support one another and publicly unite to oppose abortion.
This website will continue to stay online, as a record of what has been done.
We greatly appreciate your support over the last two years. We began in August 2006 to alert the public about Labor's policy and plans to decriminalise abortion, particularly in the lead up to the November 2006 election. And we continued fighting as Labor won the election and the decriminalisation of abortion became a real threat and now a present reality. Despite this result we are grateful that together we have been able to contribute to the combined pro-life fight.
